• Snow is falling and bonfires are blazing - time to get in whites for a warming fish pie and reds for a rich meat stew.

    News

Oz Clarke has included the Blaufrankisch from Triebaumer in Austria in his 2013 Guide - 'My top wines for 2013'. Why not try some of the 2008 vintage from The Grapevine - £11.50 a bottle - which has mellowed considerably since I bought it in 2011 and will keep well for at least for another two years.

    Newcomers

    White Wines

    Chardonnay, Bouchon, Chile 2011 - £7.95

For those who won't touch Chardonnay on account of overoaked Australian Chardonnay - this wine might just change your mind. It's light and fruity with pear and floral aromas and a crisp, clean finish.

Novi Pazar Rhine Riesling, Bulgaria - £9.60

Forget German Riesling - this is more akin to southern hemisphere Riesling. Pale gold with pear and honeysuckle aromas, hints of rose and apricot and a smooth, fresh and fruity wine with a dry finish. The Russians love it and we cannot get large stocks of this wine.

    Red Wines

Le Loup dans la Bergerie Rouge, Domaine l'Hortus, Jean Orliac, Gard - France - £8.50

Syrah, Merlot and Grenache grapes all go into this deep red wine from southern France which is matured in tanks giving it a fresh taste. Cherry and plum aromas, a fruity wine from this dedicated winemaker.

Carmen Pinot Noir Reserva, Casablanca, Chile - £8.50

Black cherry and wild berry aromas and some spice. Ripe strawberry flavour and a hint of anise - this wine has a beautiful soft and balanced finish.

    Offers

    White

San Michele Appiano, Gewurztraminer Eppan, 2010 Alto Adige, Italy - £16.80 - NOW £14.90

Pale gold in colour, lovely floral and honey nose. This light Gewurztraminer from Italy has lots of fruit, spice and a dry finish.

Vin de Pays Marsanne, Jean Gaillard 2010, Rhone, France - £10.60 - NOW £8.90

A Burgundy style white from the Rhone region. Slightly floral on the nose with pear aromas. Good fruit and a lingering finish.

    Red

    Beaujolais Nouveau Villages 2011 - £8.50 - NOW £7.00

This is last year's Beaujolais Nouveau that has had a year maturing in the bottle. The wine is still full and fruity and the freshness of Nouveau has been replaced with a certain mellowness.
